Leicester and Tottenham are doing their best to make it a two-horse race, while Rafa Benitez’ Newcastle tenure gets off to a false start. And Romelu Lukaku lit up the FA Cup with a brilliant double against his former club. He makes our combined Premier League and FA Cup team of the weekend, but who joins him?

GK – John Ruddy

Not many have kept out Manchester City this season, but John Ruddy’s three key saves were a big part of Norwich’s clean sheet on Saturday. He got up well to tip Sergio Aguero’s free-kick over the bar, before denying the Argentinian’s low effort later in the game.

RB – Danny Simpson

Danny Simpson was the thorn in his former team’s side as Rafa’s revolution got off to a losing start, as Newcastle went down at Leicester. He might not offer as much as some wing-backs but Aleksandar Mitrović would have been sick of the sight of his orange Adidas X 15 boots as Simpson had the making of him on Monday.

CB – Vincent Kompany

City’s magnificent skipper showed why his side have missed him so much at the back this season, but despite a heroic performance, the defender could not inspire his side to victory at Norwich. Another calf injury on Tuesday evening is set to limit his time on the pitch even further this season, which will be a huge blow to City fans who still believe they can reign in Leicester at the Premier League summit.

LB – Timm Klose

The January signing is now up to seven starts for Norwich since his arrival from Wolfsburg, but his appearance on Saturday was undeniably his best yet as he shackled the likes of Sergio Aguero and David Silva. It was the Canaries first clean sheet since his arrival, but they certainly had the German to thank as he looked every bit the real deal.

RM – Marko Arnautović

Arnautović is the gift that keeps on giving this season for Stoke, and despite their loss against Southampton the Austria forward pulled on a pair of neon yellow Puma evoSPEED 1.4 boots and flicked home a near-post corner to bring his side back into the contest early in the second half.

CM – Dele Alli

A regular fixture in our fantasy XI so far this season, Dele Alli showed his England credentials once again at the weekend. Alli and Kane could soon be mentioned in the same breath as Yorke and Cole, Shearer and Sutton, and Henry and Bergkamp if they keep this up. With Alli feeding Kane twice more on Saturday, he has now assisted the striker six times in the league this season.

CM – Dimitri Payet

It’s been clear Dimitri Payet is the real deal for quite some time now, but if anyone needed any further proof they shouldn’t look any further than his free-kick against Manchester United. Payet sent David de Gea scrambling from all of 30 yards out, but the Spanish stopper could prevent the wicked curling effort creeping off the inside of the post and into the net. A wonderful goal for a fine player.

LM – Max Gradel

Max Gradel has been the catalyst for steering Howe’s boat ashore, with the Ivory Coast winger’s return from cruciate ligament damage yielding 10 points from four games. He added an assist to his first goal for the club for eight years on Saturday – his previous strike coming in 2008’s win over Millwall when he was on loan from Leicester.

CF – Romelu Lukaku

Even the most hardened of Chelsea fans would have been forced to admit their side’s sale of Romelu Lukaku has proved to be a big mistake after he dumped them out of the FA Cup and took away their only remaining chance of silverware this season. After not really being given a chance at Stamford Bridge, it’s clear Lukaku is now bordering on being a world class player – and his cool finish after shrugging off four defenders for Everton’s opener was a demonstration of the power and finesse that his former employers are missing.

CF – Harry Kane

Thanks to Saturday’s double, Harry Kane and his lime green Hypervenom Phinish boots are now up to 19 league goals for the season, and 24 in all comps. That is just two Premier League goals off last season’s tally, with nine games remaining. One season wonder indeed…

CF – Graziano Pellè

He may not have had it all his own way this season, but Saints fans will have breathed a sigh of relief when Graziano Pellè ended a Premier League goal drought that stretched back to early November. He effortlessly swept home his first with his bright orange Nike Mercurial Superfly boots, before flicking home a near-post corner to win the game for Southampton.
